Where to Go Winter Fishing on Long Island

Posted by on 10:57 am in News | Comments Off on Where to Go Winter Fishing on Long Island

Where to Go Winter Fishing on Long Island

Just because the winter is here, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy what all of Long Island has to offer. There isn’t a lot of charter boat fishing in Nassau County, but the boats in Freeport and Point Lookout happen to be open all year round. Despite the cold temperatures, there’s plenty of fish in the sea!

Unfortunately, striper season has just come to an end. However, bluefish, weakfish, Atlantic cod, haddock and mackerel are in season all year long. Black sea bass and porgy are in season until December 31. And you’re not going to catch any of the big fish standing on land. So bundle up and get ready to head out to sea with the best charter boats out of Freeport and Point Lookout.

Charter Boats

Winter fishing on Long Island almost wouldn’t be possible without charter boats. Even those who have their own boats have trouble keeping up with all the winter maintenance, so they end up storing them away. So every now and then when you feel like having fresh fish for dinner, hop on a charter boat for the catch of the day.

Our favorite charter company out of Freeport is the Captain Lou Fleet, this fleet is one of the few who braves the winter weather. The two boats of the fleet include, Capt Lou VII and Starstream VIII. Currently, they’re looking for those fish fanatics who are willing to spend a serious half day searching for fish. Every week there’s plenty of 60-80 mile wreck trips to choose from. The boat leaves at 11 pm and comes back the next afternoon. There’s 6 am full days of blackfish fishing, as well as seal watching cruises throughout the whole winter. Each year more and more seals come to Long Island to play during the winter months. The price for a wreck trip is $180 per person, but there’s a buy one, get a second trip free deal going on that you can’t miss!

If you’re looking to catch some big cod and mackerel, then take a trip on the Super Hawk out of Point Lookout. These 60-80 mile wreck trips are trying to get in every fishing day before the end of the year, so there’s plenty of chances for you to jump on a boat. The Super Hawk Fishing Report says fishing has been great the last few trips. Trips are $175 per person. Enjoy the best winter fishing on Long Island with Super Hawk.

Don’t let the cold weather keep you inside. Get in some great winter fishing on Long Island. Whether you want to catch the big fish or watch the seals play on Long Island’s shore, look to the Captain Lou Fleet or Super Hawk. All Island Transportation can get you there. We’ll pick you up and make sure you make it to the greatest winter fishing on Long Island.

Holiday Office Party Do’s and Don’ts

Holiday Office Party Do’s and Don’ts

‘Tis the season for holiday office parties! Whether you like it or not, it’s coming and it’s kind of customary to go. Thanks to the help of Business Insider, All Island Transportation has some do’s and don’ts to help you get through the party without turning into the office gossip.

Holiday Office Party Do’s

It is important to remember that although it has the word “party” in the title, it also has the word “office”. So you want to act appropriately as if you would at a formal event, not bar crawling with your buddies. Take our advice and follow this list.

Do watch your alcohol intake: This is very important because you don’t want to be the one that gets sick in front of your boss. It’s best to think that a holiday office party is not the place to test your limits. You might even have to work the next day. Try to limit your drinks and eat before the party. Whether or not there will be food, a full stomach will absorb the alcohol better.

Do dress properly: Dress to impress while staying conservative and work-like.

Do reach out to those you are not too familiar with: This is a great opportunity to branch out and show interest in those you work with.

Do have an exit strategy: If you have had a few too much to drink, calling a cab beforehand will work best. You don’t want to be standing around waiting for a ride to come up.

Holiday Office Party Don’ts

Don’t skip the party: The annual holiday office party might seem like a pain, but it is important that you go. It shows that you are trying and willing to be a part of the team. Your absence will only grow concern from fellow employees.

Don’t arrive on time: Especially if you don’t want to be there. Let the party liven up a bit before you arrive so you can avoid the awkwardness.

Don’t talk work related matters: You might think it is impossible to bring up since everyone has this in common. So try to expand your conversations. This is perfect for reaching out to your coworkers. Ask them about their families and what they like to do outside of work.

Stay Safe at Your Holiday Office Party

Since you’re not there to get drunk, you might think it is alright to drive home after a couple of cocktails. To be honest, you are better off finding another ride. During the holiday season police officers tend to crack down on drinking and driving. A “STOP DWI” campaign in Nassau County has already been in effect since this Thanksgiving weekend. Police officers plan to continue with this campaign throughout the holiday season. Let All Island Transportation keep you safe after your holiday office party. You can make a reservation with us and we can bring you to and from the party.

This Year’s Thanksgiving Eve on Long Island

This Year’s Thanksgiving Eve on Long Island

Thanksgiving is almost upon us! Which means it’s time to brace yourself and get ready for the only two days out of the year where over-indulgence is completely acceptable (we wish it could be longer). While some areas around the country may only get to indulge on turkey on Thanksgiving, Long Island has options for everyone. Whether you want to get go out for Thanksgiving dinner or if you want to test your alcohol tolerance with your friends on Thanksgiving Eve, Long Island has what you’re looking for. Here are our top 3 favorite places to go for Thanksgiving Eve on Long Island.

Thanksgiving Eve on Long Island – Where to Go

1.       Bistro 72

Located in Riverhead on the North Shore of Long Island, Bistro 72 is a casual and elegant lounge that will be a hotspot for those Thanksgiving Eve couples looking for a romantic pre-holiday getaway. With live music from Afro-Cuban band Mambo Loco we’re sure Bistro 72 will give you a unique date night that you won’t forget. Check out their website here for further information.

2.       The Velvet Lounge

While we’re on the subject of classy bars the Velvet Lounge (an extension to the Curry Club restaurant in East Setauket on Long Island’s North Shore) is a great venue for event-goers that prefer a more established bar. While space is tight and the lights are dim there is just something about that old bar feel that makes drinking with your buddies that much better. For those who do plan on going, the Velvet Lounge will also feature live music from I Am Tim on the night setting the tone for what could be a truly memorable music-filled night.

3.       The Nutty Irishman

With two locations (one in Bay Shore and one in Farmingdale) the Nutty Irishman is worth checking out if you want a bar without the bells and whistles that some bars have opted for. The Irishman specializes in drinks, which, we have to say, is probably what you’re looking for on Thanksgiving Eve. They have everything from your local microbrews to the Nutty Irishman specialty shot (Bailey’s Irish Cream & Frangelico). So, if you enjoy drinking, we would have to put this one at the top of the list in terms of affordable drinks.

Like we said, there are thousands of bars that you could spend the holiday at, but, these are our top three in terms of drinks, music and food. We hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving Eve on Long Island and, as always, please don’t drink and drive. Our drivers will get you to your desired Thanksgiving Eve location swiftly and safely (and they’ll even stay with you for the night). So please don’t be afraid to call All Island Transportation to book a reservation at any of these numbers. Stay safe and have fun!
